EXTREME HOME "SOUL" MAKEOVER

I love that show. You have a family in need, people who are living in unsafe homes, raising their family through difficulty and distress. Ty Pennington and his group of Angels comes in with their motor coach and gives the family not only a new home, but new HOPE. A whole community unites to give aid and support to the family.

We can be new HOPE! Steubenville St. Louis Mid America has set up a scholarship fund to help teens who want to attend our weekend conferences. Not knowing the need, we put $1550.00 into the fund to help fund teens. We have been overwehlmed with story after story of teens who could gain so much from the weekend conferences but cannot afford the $155.00 fee. All totalled requests have come in for $4400.00. In praying about how to distribute the funds available I thought, "We need angels like Ty has." We need a community to unite to help deepen the faith life of these teens.

We will be sending out partial scholarships to each of those who requested assistance. Can you help us to give full scholarships? Can you be angel to give new HOPE to young people who desire to attend a Steubenville St. Louis Mid-America Youth Concerence?

If your heart is answering yes, then please send your donation to Scholarship Fund - Rosanne Twellman, Office of Youth Ministry 20 Archbishop May Dr. St. Louis, MO 63119.

If you have questions, please call Rosanne at 314.633.2506.

P.S. After I contacted all the groups about their paritial grants, even more requests came in. We truly need Angels!

ALL ACCESS - Steubenville St. Louis 2007

Can you believe it is that time of year already? In just a month registration will open for the Steubenville conferences this coming July. There are two weeks to choose from, July 6-8 and July 13-15. Each weekend will have teens singing, dancing, praising, and praying! Are you planning on attending? How many teens will accompany you? If you have attended in the past, you know how the excitement is contagious. Invite someone who has never attended to be part of the excitement. The Lord asks us daily to be excited about Him, what better way than to invite your friends to be a part of it!

Registration for group leaders begins on January 30, 2007. We look forward to seeing you in July, so don't miss out, get registered!

Get Your Steubenville Fix

Do you ever wake up at night in a cold sweat, but don't know why? How about going to get your keys and suddenly realizing you left the iron on for the 14th time that day? Perhaps refrigerator magnets just don't seem to have the same stick that they used to? Fear not, for modern medical science has recently attributed these symptoms to a malady known as 'Steubenville Withdrawl Syndrome' or SWS. Tests have shown that SWS is not genetically traceable, nor is it linked to your proximity to an Elvis impersonator. Rather, it is due to repeated exposure to a conference called 'Steubenville St. Louis/Mid-America'. The more times you are exposed, the stronger the symptoms. While a cure for SWS has yet to be found, our crack team of researchers here at the OYM have found temporary relief in the form of a song (scientific name - themeus allus accessi).

If you find yourself suffering from SWS, or are just plain curious, I encourage you to check it out on our Steubenville page . And relax… you've only left the iron on 8 times today.

I have been CHANGED

Preparation for Steubenville 2006 began almost immediately after 2005’s conference ended, and the greatest part of preparation was for the mere fact that the Lord had blessed us with the opportunity to serve Him and all of you through not only one, but two conferences for this summer. And what a blessing it truly has been!

I returned this summer as the Steubenville intern, which meant I did everything from counting out 100+ lanyards for some groups, to organizing a room for every person attending, pulling all-nighters with Rosanne to print 4000 name tags, to most importantly, praying for all of you. I got to experience something insanely beautiful and moving that it touched my heart many times throughout the weekend just watching in awe as the Holy Spirit worked through all of you.

…click to read more of Katie's story!

Steubenville Conference Breaks All Records

The first year of sponsoring two conferences for the youth of St. Louis as well as the Midwest has broken all kinds of records. Twenty-four days after registration began the conferences have sold out. A waiting list is being generated for each of the conferences for those who wish to attend but missed getting registered.

If you have not registered and want to get on the waiting list, simply go through the registration process for the week you would like to attend.

The OYM thanks everyone who registered, and asks for your continued prayers for the conference, the teens, speakers and all invovled with Steubenville St. Louis Mid America.

We're Sold Out!

Steubenville St. Louis Mid America is a weekend conference for teens. It is co-sponsored by Franciscan University, Steubenville and held in Springfield, Missouri. National speakers and those from our own fair city will gather at Southwest Missouri State University on July 8, 9, and 10. There will be music, prayer, workshops, reconciliation, and great speakers to encourage our youth in their faith, and to inspire them to do more to spread the Good News.

Registration for the conference opened January 31st. Within 10 days of registration, we have sold out! What a wonderful feeling! But this does not spell the end, only the beginning. We have started a waiting list for those groups who were not able to register, or for those who under estimated their numbers. As with every conference in the past we have always had some people drop for one reason or another, so if you planned on attending but didn’t register in time, please call our office and get on the waiting list.

Year 6, Come and Gone!

With one of the most important weeks behind me, I want to take some time and sit back and reflect on what it really meant.

I spend about six months preparing for the Steubenville St. Louis Mid America conference. It all starts with the trip I take to Steubenville in September to meet with the hosts, other organizers and staff from Franciscan University. We meet and pray and talk about the last year and the upcoming year. It is a great time for us organizers to get together and hash out what was good that happened and what was not so good. We share ideas and pick each other’s brains for an idea that might help us.

Then it is on to the many aspects of putting a conference together logistically. From reserving hotel rooms for the speakers to recruiting volunteers, from renting golf carts for staff to assigning seats for the main sessions, it all runs through our office. Sometimes I feel like I am meeting myself coming and going. Many times it takes me days if not weeks to return some phone calls or emails. As the weekend approaches, longer hours and little if no sleep happens as last minute things (name tags, room lists, liability forms) all have to be finished. But it all marches on, and the conference weekend approaches.

The conference takes on its own life when it starts. I let go and it just happens. The Lord is in our midst and it’s all I can do just to stand in the shadow of the stage in awe of you, praising, clapping, singing, and loving the Lord. I stand backstage and listen and look out and see 2000 young people with the chaperones, praising the one God who is so, so very good to all of us.

In sitting here, thinking back to the weekend, I am trying to remember my favorite part of the weekend. It is hard, because I have so many favorite parts; it is hard to pinpoint one. So for you I will list what I can remember as my favorite parts:

Sitting at registration and finally putting a face to the many people I have talked with throughout the year and welcoming them to the weekend.

Seeing and welcoming those whom have been to our conference before.

Seeing the thousands walking around campus, laughing and having a great time.

Looking out and seeing 2000 people who love Christ and want more to be with Him.

Riding in a golf cart with Ralph Poyo behind the wheel, and then again with Fr. Dave, as he races Steve Allgeyer to the destination.

Sitting in the balcony, seeing the many different color conference shirts, hearing 2000 voices praising God, and then becoming silent in prayer as He enters.

Watching teens playing Frisbee.

Seeing my own daughter attending the conference, doing hand motions.

Standing with my co-workers in prayer and worship.

Being with all the wonderful volunteers, laughing with them, and praying with them.

Watching Fr. Dave’s water bottle disappear, not once but three times!

Seeing the happy faces of those I came to serve.

This makes the lack of sleep and the long hours disappear. This pushes them so far away that I want to do it again and again and again. People come up to me and thank me, but they have it wrong, it is I who want to thank you. You strengthen my faith and you lift me up, you get ‘er done!
