The Office of Laity and Family Life presents Wednesday Wisdom Speaker Series

Anyone who has had a teenager in their lives know there are many challenges and special joys to parenting them through their transition to adulthood.  Tonight Margaret Bommarito will present, Keeping Your Sanity While Parenting Your Teen, to help parents of teens and "tweens" cope with the many changes, challenges and new experiences to come.

Each Wednesday Wisdom includes a presentation, time for small group discussion and the opportunity to ask questions.  The registration fee is $5 and is payable at the door, however, advance registration is strongly encouarged.  Call 314.792.7183 to register or for more information.

Lt. Joe Laramie, Director of the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will be speaking.


Please join us for an informative session on the internet and keeping our teenage children safe while using it.  Lt. Laramie works with law enforcement officers throughout the United States to protect children from online criminal activity. He will discuss the current social networking websites like MySpace and FaceBook.  Lt. Laramie regularly speaks in the St. Louis area to parents, teens, and grade school children about the appropriate use of the internet.  His presentation will specifically address the concerns of parents about internet safety.

Internet Dangers

One of the attractions of the Internet is personal safety derived from relative anonymity.  Unfortunately, this same anonymity can be similarly dangerous in the hands of a predator. A teen doesn't always know with whom he or she is interacting. Teens may think they know, but unless it's a school friend, a relative or someone they've met in person, they really can't be sure. Often parents think of pedophiles as having access to children out on the playground and other public places, but without being smart about internet usage, teens can actually be interacting on their home computers with adults who pretend to be other teens. Parents: Texas Governor's Cheap Shot at Teenage Girls

Parents of young teenage girls beware!

The Governor in Texas (Perry) wants to 'take a shot' at your sixth grade daughter and he is evoking his executive power to do it. This is not your typical “cheap shot” either; this one could allow the state to go against your parental, religious or medical wishes. If this becomes the norm in Texas it could become the norm throughout the United States.
