Pray for Those Who Are Heading to D.C.

Saturday night many people from across our archdiocese will begin loading buses and heading to Washington D.C. for the Pro-Life March.

The 35th Annual March will be held on Tuesday January 22nd from 1-4 pm. There will be a Youth Mass held at the Verizon Center at 9 am that morning.

The Pro-life March is a powerful way for all of us to defend the rights of human life, especially for those who do not have a voice. May our joyful witness speak to the hearts of all those who enact laws in our country.

Anyone who is not going on the March should pray for all of us who are. Please pray for safe travels and that we may truly be a witness to the dignity of human life. Your prayer can help strengthen all of us who are in D.C.

Run for Their Lives 5K

On Saturday, May 5, 2007, Students for Life of Saint Louis University will host Run for Their Lives, a 5K Run/Walk to benefit local crisis pregnancy organizations. Proceeds will go to Birthright, Our Lady's Inn, and Pregnancy Resource Center. All three of these organizations assist women experiencing unplanned pregnancies through a variety of services such as free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, emotional and spiritual counseling, accurate and complete information about their options, infant and maternity supplies and emergency shelter options.

The 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saint Louis University's campus starting at 9:00am on May 5, 2007. The registration fee is $15.00 in advance and $20.00 on the day of the race, with all proceeds to benefit the local pregnancy resource centers. Young Friends for Life Quarterly Meeting

Young Friends for Life is a new prolife group recently formed by the Archdiocesan Respect Life Apostolate. Its mission is to promote the dignity of human life to and through the community of young professionals in St. Louis.

The target audience of Young Friends for Life is young professionals who are post-college and “pre-PTA,” in other words, adults between the ages of 22 and 35 or so, who do not remember the landmark Supreme Court decisions of 1973 firsthand, but who live in a society that is suffering the consequences.

Join us on March 22 for our quarterly meeting to discuss upcoming events and hear what Archbishop Burke has to say about the prolife work of the youth in St. Louis!

Pro-Life Convention

Calling all pro-life high school students!

Sunday, October 22 is the annual Respect Life Convention at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, downtown St. Louis. This year, the Respect Life Apostolate is proud to partner with the Office of Youth Ministry to present a special track for teens. The theme for the youth track is “The Island: You have been chosen,” inspired by the futuristic movie, “The Island,” which was released in 2005. The movie is about science-gone-wrong, and it raises some important ethical questions that hit close to home for scientists in Missouri today. While Amendment 2 would not allow scientists in Missouri to bring a human clone to a live birth, which is what happens in the movie, the amendment advocates the creation of human life for the sole purpose of destroying it, simply to extend the life of another.

Other highlights for the Convention include a special appearance by the God Squad: Msgr. Thomas Hartman and Rabbi Marc Gellman and a talk on the Biochemistry of Sex 101 by founder of Project Rachel, Vicki Thorn. Archdiocesan Respect Life Convention

The Annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Convention will take place on Sunday, October 22.

The keynote speakers are the two members of the God Squad: Monsignor Thomas Hartman and Rabbi Marc Gellman. They have a unique blend of humor and truth promises to entertain and inspire!

This year, there will be a special workshop track just for youth. Vicki Thorn, founder of Project Rachel, will give a talk on the biology of Theology of the Body, otherwise known as "a provocative sex talk." Don't miss it! There will be other fun surprises during the Youth track, which is brought to you by the Office of Youth Ministry and the Respect Life Apostolate.

The convention will close with mass celebrated by Archbishop Burke.

Tickets for the event cost $15 per person and will go on sale in early September. Details TBA!

Crossroads visit and Mass for Life

Every 3rd Saturday of the month, pro-life advocates gather for Mass at the Cathedral, a Rosary prayer procession to the local Planned Parenthood abortion mill and Benediction back at the Cathedral. Crossroads Pro-life Walk Across America will be in St. Louis on July 15 to participate in the Mass for Life, pray with us and share some of their experiences briefly after Benediction. Come to unite yourself spiritually with the prolife movement in St. Louis and to learn more about Crossroads.

33 years ago and 46,600,000 lost lives later we remember this month the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the case that changed our country forever. We live today in what our late Holy Father John Paul II calls the “culture of death”, a society where nothing is sacred, not even the gift of life.

Studies have shown that the youth of today are taking a more pro-life stance than ever. So much so that pro-choicers are noticing and are worried. In about a week hundreds of St. Louis teens will get on buses bound for Washington D.C. to participate in the Pro-life march. Please keep them and the cause in your prayers.

2006 March for Life

Plans are underway and the countdown is on… hundreds of St. Louis teens are going to Washington, DC, in January to join thousands of other pro-lifers from around the country in the 33rd Annual March for Life. The March for Life is a peaceful demonstration that commemorates the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion and serves as a reminder that Americans are demanding the reversal of the decision in the Roe v. Parental Consent Abortion Case

A girl can not get her ears pierced with out her parents until she is 18, she can’t receive Tylenol at school without parental consent, but in some states she can walk into an Planned Parenthood, have an abortion, and no one would need to know. This week the Supreme Court will argue a case making it illegal in New Hampshire for a minor to have an abortion without parental consent. Read more.

The national March for Life will be happening again this year in Washington, DC, for the annual protest of Roe vs. Wade. Though the OYM organized trips in the past, we have been unable to for 2 years now. However, there are other pilgrimages being organized around the Archdiocese. Check out our March for Life Forum to get information about some of these trips or to advertise your own. And keep praying for a change in the hearts of Americans so that we don’t have to go back next year!

Nick Cannon, an accomplished actor, comedian, songwriter and producer with a host of credentials to his name at the age of twenty-four, including his own television show, has released his debut solo album. The feature song entitled “Can I Live”, on the album by the same name, is being praised by advocates of the culture of life for its powerfully pro-life statement. Each January you, along with hundreds of teens, travel to Washington, DC to witness for life. Plan now to take advantage of these local events to learn more about respect life issues and to stand up for life!

Mass for Life: September 17, 2005 Special invitation for all teens to attend. Mass at 8:00 am followed by rosary procession to the Planned Parenthood abortion facility. Breakfast/social following featuring an inspiring abortion testimony. Opportunity for teens to stand up and witness for life.

Archdiocesan Pro-Life Convention: October 16, 2005 Adult and Youth Pro-Life Convention combined this year. Dynamic keynote address as well as engaging workshops. Closing Mass with Archbishop Burke. High school and youth groups are invited to showcase their respect life activities. Great chance to hear speakers and join with others to be invigorated in our call to defend and promote the sanctity and dignity of every human life.

Combining Archdiocesan Conferences

The life of each human being shall be preserved and protected from that human beings biological beginning when the Father’s sperm fertilizes the Mother’s ovum, and

The life of each human being shall be preserved and protected from the biological beginning throughout the natural continuum of the human beings life by all available ordinary means and reasonable efforts, and

The life of each human being shall be preserved and protected at each stage of X life continuum to the same extent as at each and every other stage regardless of state of health or condition of dependency, and

So who do you plan to vote for anyway?

This is a question friends, family and those we work with will be asking us in the approaching months. Youth and young adults now eligible to vote are looking forward to casting their ballots for the first time. As the election year rolls along, we need to be aware of society’s decisions about the fundamental aspects of life in this country and how we influence our nation.

You can bet the American Bishops have something to say on the issue and a visit to www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship will put you in touch with “Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility”. Therein you’ll find some worthwhile resources for your parish, family, friends and youth in your life.

A Pro-Life victory we should all be thankful to Go

The Unborn Victim of Crime Bill, also known as the Lacy and Connor Law, passed the U.S. Senate on Thursday, March 25 and now goes to President Bush to be signed into law. As a law, any violent crime that injures or kills a mother AND her unborn child involves two crimes with two victims under federal law.

This is definitely a victory for the Pro-Life Movement in America. Although much more work lay ahead for us all.

Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) attached an amendment to the bill that would have prevented it from identifying the unborn as victims. Thankfully it failed 50 to 49. Below is the breakdown of the votes from Senators on Feinstein’s amendment:
